I hear burlap anything is big this year. I have seen many different wreaths made with burlap flowers, plus bouquets, centerpieces and one of my favorites is burlap roses on toss pillows.

Myric from PetitesPassion blog was kind enough to give a very detailed tutorial. She did mention concerns about using this as a lantern, as a potential fire hazard, her husband didn't seem to think it would be but caveat..

The secret to the "snow globe" is a bowl from IKEA, 8" round glass 'Blanda' bowl from IKEA.

My Resolution for 2012

One resolution I made for 2012 is to redecorate our furniture and our home. I get inspiration from Becca's blog "Adventures in decorating". She posts some awesome before and after pictures. Becca uses a lot of Anne Sloan's Chalk paint.

She used "Old White" and "Chateaux Gray".

Isn't it amazing?

Go to her blog to see the rest of her before and after photo's and get your own inspiration. My concerns are how to use chalk paint, how long it will last, and if it will chip or not. I'm also wondering how many coats are needed to cover the object.

Bottom line is I need to do more research about chalk paint on furniture, walls and all surfaces. If you used the paint I would appreciate comments, tips, suggestions good or bad.

What a great idea for a delicious and unique dessert to serve your guests on the holiday! Thanks to BlogHer :

What you'll need:

1 box of Spice Cake Mix

1 container of Vanilla Frosting

1 tsp. Ground Ginger

Gingerbread Cookies (1 for each cupcake)

Rum ( enough to replace the water in your cupcake recipe)

Chopped Candied Ginger (in small pieces) not shown.

Directions:

Prepare your cupcakes according to the box instructions, but replace the water with Rum!

Stir the ground ginger into the batter, and fill your cupcake liners...bake as usual!

Decorating for Christmas is half the fun of the holiday, the Christmas tree is always the centerpiece, followed by wreaths and garlands. Personally I think the smell of a fresh tree is best but it has it's drawbacks such as keeping it alive and fresh. Whereas the artificial trees are more convenient.

Than deciding on a theme each year or as most people do have a more personal general theme and add new decorations each year. Having a new theme each year would be very costly. But having a more personal family tree will make it a tradition which is what Christmas is all about, isn't it?

Whatever tree, fresh or fake, wishing you and yours a blessed, Merry Christmas !!

Beautiful Citrus Centerpiece

Great for Holiday dinners!

Fruitfully Fabulous

Warm up your holiday table with a scentsational centerpiece -
dress pillar candles with dried oranges, lemons, and limes.

Thinly slice the citrus fruits about 1/8-inch thick. Place a wire cooling rack
on a cookie sheet, and then arrange the sliced oranges, lemons, and limes
on the rack. Put the cookie sheet and rack in an oven preheated
to 250 degrees for approximately two hours, or until all
moisture is removed.

Tip: If you find that your slices have not dried in 2 hours, you can also
turn off the oven and leave the fruit in overnight.

Using a glue gun, connect the citrus slices to each other, forming a
band around the base of each candle. Do not glue them to the candle.
Once your candles are decorated, cluster them in the center of your
Thanksgiving table and weave berried branches throughout to create
a cohesive centerpiece.

Healthier Chicken fried steak recipe

It's essential to pound the meat and allow it to soak in buttermilk before cooking it. That way, even a lean cut of meat like top round will still be tender like fattier cuts traditionally used in this dish.

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients1 pound trimmed top round steak, preferably grass fed
1 cup low-fat buttermilk
3/4 cup all-natural whole wheat panko-style bread crumbs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 pinches ground red pepper
Olive oil spray (propellant free)

InstructionsPlace the steak on a clean, flat work surface. Using the toothed side of a meat mallet, pound it on both sides, until it is 1/4" thick. Cut it into 4 equal pieces. Place the pieces in a medium plastic bag and pour the buttermilk over them. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours or overnight.

Place 2 sheets of waxed paper or parchment paper on a clean, flat work surface.

Add the panko to the bowl of a food processor fitted with a chopping blade. Process until they are fine crumbs. Spoon the bread crumbs onto a plate.

In a small bowl, mix the garlic powder, black pepper, paprika, turmeric, salt, and red pepper.

Remove 1 steak from the buttermilk and let any excess drip off. Over a sheet of waxed paper, sprinkle both sides of the steak evenly with about one-quarter of the spice mixture. Immediately transfer the steak to the crumbs. Coat both sides. Then place the breaded steak on the second sheet of waxed paper. Repeat with the remaining steaks, placing them side by side so they don't touch on the paper. Mist the tops of both sides of the steaks with spray and sprinkle with additional pepper to taste.

Place a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, mist it with spray. Cook the steaks for 1 to 3 minutes per side, or until the breading is crisp on the outside and the insides are cooked to desired doneness (be careful not to overcook the steaks--if you do, the breading will become soggy and fall off the steaks). Lightly mist the finished steaks with spray and serve immediately.

Per serving: 166 calories, 27 g protein, 11 g carbohydrates (1 g sugar), 4 g fat, 2 g saturated fat, 51 mg cholesterol, 2 g fiber, 159 mg sodium

Double Layer Pumpkin Pie Recipe

4 oz Philly Cream Cheese [softened]
1 tbls Milk
1 tbls Sugar
1 1/2 cups CoolWhip [thawed]
1 Graham cracker pie crust [prepared]
1 cup Milk [cold]
1 cn (16oz) pumpkin
2 pk Vanilla flavored Jell-o Pudding & Pie filling
4 tsps Pumpkin pie spice

1) Mix the cream cheese, 1 tb milk, and the sugar in a large bowl with
a wire whisk `til smooth, then gently stir in the whipped topping and « of
the pumpkin pie spice. Spread on the bottom of the prepared pie crust...

2) Pour 1 c cold milk into a bowl and add the pumpkin, pudding mixes,
and the remainder of the spices beating with wire whisk `til well mixed (it
will be thick). Then spread over the cream cheese layer in the prepared pie
crust...

3) Refrigerate for at least 4 hrs. `til set then garnish with
additional whipped topping before serving...

Chocolate gravy over biscuits

A southern tradition, biscuits and gravy, usually white gravy with sausage bits, but for a delicious festive twist , chocolate gravy over biscuits or pancakes. Try it and let me know if your family enjoyed it!

Southern Chocolate Gravy

3/4 to 1 cup - granulated sugar (if you want it less sweet use 3/4 cup)

2 - 3 tablespoons flour

1 - heaping tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/4 - cups milk

1 - tablespoon butter or margarine

1/2 - teaspoon vanilla extract

Add all the dry ingredients to a medium sized pot. Add the milk, using a whisk combine the dry ingredients with the milk. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and stir constantly to prevent the mixture from scorching.

The mixture will start thicken up. When it thickens remove from heat and add the butter and the vanilla extract. Pour over biscuits.

* If by chance your gravy is not at the consistency that you want. You can mix a bit of flour and milk together and add it to the boiling chocolate to thicken as much as you like. Some people like their chocolate gravy a bit thin and some a bit thicker. I think it will be just right if you use the about 3 tablespoons flour.

Cooling summer drink

1 cup strawberries, pureed

6 oz frozen strawberry daiquiri (non OR alcoholic) concentrate

1 cup ice

1 cup water

1 cup milk (or 1 cup orange juice)

2 Tablespoons sugar

1 tsp vanilla (the secret ingredient…yum)

Puree the berries in a blender, add all of the other ingredients. Whip/blend until all the ingredients are frothy. Drink and ENJOY!

I am a land locked person who loves everything beach, ocean, seashells etc. I lived near the Pacific ocean at one time and found I was most at peace when I heard the beautiful sounds of the ocean waves. Barn stars

Today stars are usually crafted of metal, but originally they were painted onto the barns. According to legend, they were a hex sign used by German immigrants in America, which included the Amish/Mennonite communities as well as the Pennsylvania Dutch folks. Different colors had different meanings. Green barn stars symbolize growth, fertility, success in things and ideas that grow.

While the stars gained popularity outdoors, they have been brought inside as well. Barn stars were supposed to bring good fortune, offer protection against fires, hope, love, fertility, energy and harmony. Seems like a good symbol to put next to the bed! White barn stars also specifically represent purity, the power of the moon, and allowing energy to flow freely.

The medium-sized star is a fun accent in this mostly white kitchen. Black symbolized protection, also used to blend or bind elements together.

A blue star was said to bring protection, peace, calmness and spirituality.

1 tsp lemon juice

In a large bowl, whip cream cheese, lemon and sugar for a few minutes until fluffy.Add Cool Whip and whip until smooth. Spoon mixture into pie crust and chill for a few hours, until firm. (You could also spoon into bowls and eat like a mousse for only 3.25 points each)

Did you know Ballard designs has a special studio called Style Studio, they feature some great DIY projects, these paper and fabric placemats are a few ideas and projects they feature with "how to's"! The table settings following are a few plate settings that I will be using while making my own matching paper place mats and napkins plus napkin holders.

4TH of July

This is the place setting I will be using for my 4th of July tablescape, along with foam lined paper placemats in blue, blue glasses, red napkins, flags, red white and blue carnations, red and blue candles.

I want to redecorate my master bedroom, I currently have a white wrought iron headboard, neutral walls, neutral carpet. I posted photos from House Beautiful decorating bedroom ideas. What I am wanting is white lacy bedding, florals, more romantic look, with a crystal chandelier. Thinking of wallpapering in florals, the chandelier is a must. Also looking for tons of lacy pillows and maybe a vintage seat. Nightstands with fresh flowers in silver or crystal vases. The fun is in the planning!

Getting thin like Kate and Pippa

Besides admiring Kate Middleton's sense of style it was obvious she looks good in anything she wears because of her attractive thin figure. How does the Dutchess of Cambridge keep that body looking that good? She says she diets and workouts as does her sister Pippa. It's all about eating less but healthier.

What diets are popular for getting thin? Protein diets. Low calorie protein diets, I went on such a diet myself and lost 20 lbs within 1 month however I added shakes and actually snacked on chocolate snacks that were delicious little appetite control chews that helped me to stick with the local diet.

I walked a lot for exercise because of bad knees I couldn't really jog. Kate and Pippa workout to keep their thin figures.

We all read about the diet that both Kate and her sister Pippa supposedly follow and it's called the "Dukan diet". I found this RECIPE online that is supposed to be from the DukanDiet :

SPEEDY 'ATTACK-PHASE' RECIPES

SAUTÉED CHICKEN WITH LEMON AND CAPERS
(Serves 4)

3 drops of oil
1 red onion, finely chopped
800g (1lb 12oz) chicken breasts, cut into thin slices
Grated zest of 1 lemon
1 tbsp small capers, drained and rinsed
75ml (2½ fl oz) lemon juice
5 basil leaves, finely chopped
Salt and black pepper

In a non-stick frying pan (oiled and wiped with kitchen paper), pan-fry the onion until it turns golden-brown,

then put to one side. Brown the chicken slices in the same pan over a medium heat.

Add the onion, lemon zest, capers, lemon juice, basil, salt and black pepper. Serve piping hot.

New Pierre Dukan: Dukan Diet Recipe Book

Sounds DELICIOUS doesn't it? You can live with eating a delicious meal like that couldn't you? I know I definitely could. I kept away from white bread, sugar, fast food, snacks, salt, Soft drinks. Eating a high protein, small portion meals, appetite control chews, drank plenty water, used lemon juice, walked, took vitamins I lost a total of 65 pounds.

Losing weight the smart healthy way is the best and should be the ONLY way to lose weight and keep it off. Will it guarantee that you will marry a Prince, well we can dream can't we?

Every cell in my body responds to every single healthy thought I think.

How to create more storage space in bathroom

I first found this great storage organizing idea on TipJunkie

A lot of us with smaller bathrooms in apartments or anywhere we are tight on space have a creative way to add more storage. Build a shelf with two brackets and a board above a doorway to create extra storage for baskets, linens, toiletries, etc.
The idea came from MarthaStewart Home and Garden. In her,
Organizing Good Things 2005, October/November 2006

Install a Toiletry Shelf
Make space for supplies over the bathroom door so that they'll be accessible when they need to be replenished. Use wood screws to secure a pair of wooden shelf brackets to either side of the door frame; screw shelf to brackets. The shelf should rest on top of the door molding, which will help support the weight. Keep small bottled items and toilet paper in handled boxes. Bars of soap can be stored, unwrapped, in an airtight glass container.

When McDonald's came out with their McCafe Frozen Strawberry Lemonade I fell in love, it is so refreshing and delicious! When I saw a recipe using Strawberry cake mix I decided to add lemonade to the cake mix to make a Strawberry Lemonade Cake. YUM!

RECIPE :

Duncan Hines Strawberry cake Mix

You Will Need:
1 Cups Water
1/3 cup lemonade
1/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
3 Large Eggs

Pan Size / Bake Time:
2 8": 33-36 minutes
2 9": 28-31 minutes
13 x 9-inch: 32-35 minutes
Bundt®: 38-43 minutes
24 Cupcakes:
18-21 minutes

Prep: PREHEAT oven to 350°F for metal or glass pans, 325°F for dark or coated pans. GREASE sides and bottom of each pan with shortening. FLOUR lightly. (Use baking cups for cupcakes).

Mix: BLEND dry mix, water, oil and eggs in large bowl at low speed until moistened (about 30 seconds). BEAT at medium speed for 2 minutes. POUR batter in pans and bake immediately.
Bake: BAKE following chart below. Add 3-5 minutes to bake time for dark or coated pans. Cake is done when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. COOL in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Cool completely before frosting

The Kitchen Dish Towel Dilemma

What is the dilemma? Where to stash them to keep them dry and have them nearby and handy. Dish towels are a cute kitchen accessory and a necessary item in the kitchen. For a while we were using paper towels and wasting a lot of money until we found towels with cute patterns and variety of materials we could get for less money. Cotton dish towels versus paper towels besides cost was keeping the cloth towels dry till the next use. There are many towel racks available from pull out racks in cabinet to an adorable over the door holder!

There are over cabinet racks, over drawer racks, but most of us hang the towels over the edge of the sink, on stove handles, refrigerator handles, dish drainers. But they can slip off the oven handles and refrigerator handles.

Use pretty ribbons with the clips attached to hold the towels

Store additional dry towels in a pretty wire mesh basket, roll the towels and place them in the wire holder.

Because we need a lot of the towels, they get soiled, or burnt, buying them in bulk is the way to go, after all we use them as pot holders at times, or to clean our hands.

A Chocolate guilt free delight

Chocolate guilt free, is that possible? Well if not taken to the extreme. I ate Jello lo-cal chocolate pudding from time to time, which helped me to lose 60 lbs while satisfying a sweet tooth, no the pudding didn't help me lose the weight, I used this program and I watched my food intake, for excercise I walked. But to satisfy my sweet tooth I ate lo-cal goodies once in a while.

Even tho I ate jello puddings and Cool whip separately I never thought to put them together:

Not until I read a post on TwigandThistle Blog titled "Guilt Free Mousse" of course her photo's helped to get my attention as well

See what I mean? Got my attention all right. I got to thinking what else other than mousse in a cup could it be used for, I came up with putting it in a pie crust to make a delicious Chocolate cream pie, instead of putting more cool whip on the top of the pie allow each guest to put a dollop of cream on their individual piece. Fold two tablespoons of fat free cool whip into 60 calorie pudding gives you a 75 calorie dessert!

Add Banana slices, strawberries, white chocolate pieces, put it in a pretty glass and first put cool whip than the mousse and keep varying it for a pretty presentation. Use it as a filling in cupcakes or a cake, Add Amaretto for a grownup dessert. How about freezing it to make a popsicle. WOW, all this goodness from one inspired idea! Thanks Twig and Thistle!

Cork craft projects

In April Anthropologie had displays in their stores – all about corks! They teamed up with the Cork Forest Conservation Alliance (CFCA) to promote the use of natural corks. Did you know that corks are 100% natural, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable? Yes there is actually a Cork forest conservation alliance. When buying wine or champagne I never thought about whether the corks were natural or not. Unfortunately I didn't think to keep corks now I am sorry I didnt. I became obsessed with crafts made from corks.

Coupons are gaining in popularity in a recent move by many families to live frugally and save money. The cash envelope system endorsed by DaveRamsey has been popular for many years now. What does this have to do with anything? A envelope tutorial and template that can be used in your wallet and carried with you for easy and fast retrieval of either coupons or cash. I know that since I'm not a "Extreme Couponer" but I do carry coupons this system would be perfect for me. I first saw this idea while on Pinterest and checked it out and to my delight found the tutorial was easy to follow.

What a creative and beautiful idea, whether it's a new or old hutch this idea would make it unique! Talk about thinking outside the box, I would never have thought to wallpaper the back of a cabinet like this but what a wow look! Notice how it makes the glasses and dishes pop. so Romantic and beautiful!

My hutch cabinet is country so the wallpaper would not be the romantic kind as this one is, maybe fruits or something like this:
